Sugary thoughts

Hi all,
I wasn’t going to reblog anything again today but I came across this post and as I am rethinking the way I eat, I thought I’d share it with you.

Having been raised on sugar on my bread, in my porridge and sweetened drinks and even sweetened medicine and toothpaste!-what were my parents thinking in the sixties and seventies?- the thought of omitting all refined sugar scares the living daylights out of me!  My name is Sandra and I am a sweetaholic…

I have made baby steps toward less sugar: sweetener in my tea and eating yoghurt with granola in the morning (sweetener in the yoghurt but sadly still chocolate in the granola,  although much better than bread and chocolate sprinkles), but more is needed.
I suffer from rheumatic pains in my joints and am overweight so, unless I want to be on painkillers all day-which I don’t – I will have to start thinking about my diet and how it can contribute in feeling better.
I have started with no longer drinking soda’s. At the moment I replace them with orange juice from the shop, but I will be going fresh next week (after market day) and every afternoon I eat a banana dipped in cinnamon as cinnamon is beneficial.
Next I will be looking at other foods and vitamins and supplements.

But this post got me thinking about my sugar intake and how it may affect my health at the moment.
I’ll keep you posted about what changes I will make and how I feel.
Have a lovely day

Fabulously Domestic

Last week, I ate a chocolate chip cookie. A warm, gooey and totally processed chocolate chip cookie. God only knows what was in that thing.

But after an entire month without any refined sugars, that commercial concoction of additives and white refined sugar tasted so good.

The ironic thing is, after 30 days without sugar, I looked at the cookie being offered to me and I thought “hmm…not that enticing.” I thought to myself, “hey, this no refined sugar thing is actually pretty easy — I could just keep going for another month! And maybe another…”. That cookie had nothin’ on me!

And herein lies the mistake: after my month-long hiatus from refined sugars, I justified it with that all-too-common diet-wrecker: “ah what the heck, I deserve it”. And as soon as that sugar-packed cookie hit my taste buds — I wanted another one (thankfully, the…

Years ago we owned a car like this one, I still remember the musty smell, the big steering wheel that made you feel like you were in a truck (the heavy steering helped with that feeling), the way I almost had to stand up to use the clutch, the handbreak that was so far to the right I almost couldn’t reach it and that meant that I could never drive up a steep hill by myself, the windscreen wiper (just 1!) that had a motor that would stop whenever the rain was too persistent so you’d have to wipe by hand, the fact that you could put a bicycle standing up behind the driver’s seat it was sooo wide, the vacation driving from Sheerness to Lands End in England, the fact we were driven to church in this car when we married, so many memories…sadly also very much money that went into the upkeep of this car…too much in the end to be fun anymore so we sold it in the nineties.

2nd chance5

Hello everyone

Yesterday I went to Arnemuiden with son 4 and the singer of the band 2nd chance5 and a lot of equipment in the back of the car.

Son 4 plays bass-guitar in this punk grunge rock band.

They were allowed to make a video clip inside an over 200-year-old workshop here: werfarnemuiden

I think they were very lucky to be allowed to do this, it is a beautiful location, and they had a great time making photo’s and filming.

Let’s help revive the golden rule

Goodmorning!

I found the video at the bottom of this post on http://karboojeh.wordpress.com and I thank

Karboojeh

for sharing.

It is like the quote I hold dear: “also avoid every loveless thought”  from  “the book of the living God” by  Bô Yin Râ

A wonderful rule to live by, but also one of the hardest rules if you want to apply it always. But that shouldn’t stop us from trying I think.
