catching up

Hi readers,

Over the last few days I just could not find the time to blog, too busy with other things – mainly crochet, you will see the results soon.

Blogging often means editing photographs first, for me at least it does. So that is what I did this morning and I had a lot of fun doing so!

Here are some of the results: Son 4 wanted me to take some pictures of him playing the guitar and in his stage outfit…

Last week it was spring holiday for him so he went along to some of the thrift shops that are a bit further away and here are some of my treasures

I fond this lovely dark blue Creation Gabrielle handbag at Goodwill in Kapelle. It’s a leather bag in very good condition and it cost me just 1,50 euro. I just looked the bag up on google and found one for sale for 12,95 so I think I did o.k. here! It is not my preferred style but it is very practical so I guess I’ll use it a lot.

I found another handbag in the shop for Romania in Grijpskerke, it’s a lot older and in terrible condition, the moths have had a great meal of it! It was just 1 euro and I bought it to use the lovely clasp.

Can you see the moth holes in the wool fabric around the clasp?

I hope I will be able to attach new fabric in the same shape.

In the same shop I found this book, a little more expensive than I would like for a book – 3 euro – but in mint condition and something to keep for future generations as it talks about the history of homemaking from the eighteen-hundreds up to the nineteen-eighty’s.

It has lot’s of photographs that bring back childhood memories

We also went to Middelburg and there I found this pretty vase with an etched flower on it

I’m not sure how old it is but it is handblown and I love the shape of it, isn’t it amazing what lovely things you can buy for just a few

euro cents?

Yesterday the weather changed and it was a lovely sunny day just like today with temperatures of around 12 degrees C, so we went for a walk  and halfway sat down to look at the passing traffic and comment on people’s coats and scarfs. We saw quite a variety of styles, some nice, some you could only describe as ‘ strange’ .

This was our view from the bench.

Today is another lovely sunny day, 15 degrees today!  And this afternoon I’m going to the thrift shops in Kapelle with my parents.

I hope you will have a lovely day too.

Knitting for easter

Hello readers

I have easter on my mind! I am knitting some sweet decorations to decorate the small metal tree in my window.

The small knitted birds aren’t finished yet, they will get felt beaks, wings and tails and will be decorated with beads. The pattern came from Let’s Knit magazine.

The other day I was given a gift-card by my mother in law for an online bookstore. I used it to get Arne & Carlos breien op hun paasbest (or : knitting for easter) Lovely book full of great pictures and patterns for knitting easter eggs, easterbunny, chicken and egg-sweaters.

I accidently hit “flash” on my camera so not all photo’s looked so great, but here’s an example made just with stripey sock yarn.

With the same yarn I covered a measuring tape

I’m also still working on this

Add to that a cardigan in progress and I guess I’m working on too many projects at the same time again.

Have a lovely day

Another present

Good day all.

It’s pretty chilly out today and raining, they say we may be having some snow later this month. It wouldn’t be impossible although it doesn’t happen often. Our eldest son will be 26 on the 10th and I remember that the day he was born we were all still in warm winter clothes and there was snow the following week.

April is birthday month in our family. There’s a birthday almost every week. Yesterday I’ve been making my mother in law, who will be 87 on the 15th, a present that will help her keep track of appointments and phone numbers and provides a shopping list as well.

It’s filled with pictures of scenes from our region with people in traditional costume.

I’ve also been working on the cotton cardigan from Let’s Knit. I am using Phildar Satine no.4 50% cotton, acrylic and I like the way it looks and feels. I’ll be knitting a bit more on it as I would love to be able to wear in on the 30th when it is Koninginnedag.

It’s traditional to wear either something orange (does salmon count?) or red, white and blue. Usually people wear just a ribbon or something but some people go overboard and are dressed in orange from top to toe, especially in Amsterdam where Koninginnedag is a big thing with people selling their unwanted stuff or home made things on the street and people coming from all over the country to join in the celebrations.

Easter Decoration

Good morning this lovely sunny – but cold – Sunday morning.

Dear daughter in law and I had a lovely time yesterday making our Easter decoration. I’m not a big fan of decorating the whole house for Easter. When the boys were small we would just put some willow branches in a vase and hang some wooden eggs in them like this

and in recent years I haven’t decorated at all, but this I like a lot. It keeps the decoration contained to this one space on the dinner table.

We made a big mess of the table…

We painted our little glass vases with glass paint which gives a lovely stained glass effect.

We arranged all our bought items and some of my own things.

And the finished product

Much nicer and definitely cheaper than buying the whole thing ready made!

In the evening I washed my hair and put in cut-up-tshirt-strips so I went to bed looking like this

I’m very curious about the result!

See you all on Monday and on that day the Beginner Bloggers Club starts over at http://asimplyklassichome.blogspot.com and I’m featured…

More book pages

Hello dear readers,

Yesterday was quite the busy day. No time for blogging.

My mother in law had a nasty fall on Thursday and broke her upper arm. We’ve been busy organising medical care and some help around the house as she can’t care for herself right now. She’s in a lot of pain and being very brave about it, but of course she’s quite helpless. We also went to get her some groceries and visited for a while.

In the afternoon I went out with dear daughter in law to some local furniture and diy stores and for a trip to the garden centre. We treated ourselves to some easter decorations to make a nice display on the table. Today we are going to put it all together. I’ll post pictures later.

I’ve also been working on presents for my dad’s birthday

A nice note pad, it just needs adding a small pencil

I used an old coaster, some cardboard saved from a biscuit package, book pages, brown wrapping paper, scrap paper, glue, part of a note pad I bought in Action, a clip and some raffia.

He had requested flowers for his balcony so we have bought him some lovely Petunia’s

and a Ranunculus

and to that I added a butterfly. I’ve seen them with a small solar powered system that makes it move but I thought why not make one myself. This time the wind will make it move just as well

I used a bicycle spoke covered in colourful tape, some metal wire from the garden centre, of course a page from a book, some scrap paper and stickers and a toothpick and glue and sealed the butterfly with multi coat to protect it from damp. It is not meant to go outside but on a protected balcony where there will be no rain I guess it will be ok.

See you later!

Fun with a vintage book

Hi everyone!

This morning I woke up in a misty world. Doing my exercise in front of my bedroom window wasn’t much fun with nothing much to look at. But now the sun’s coming out again and the mist is clearing up.

My Callanetics exercises are going well and I’m starting to notice some difference, I’m actually developing some muscles! Wow this really works! And it makes me feel full of energy in the morning. I’m definitely motivated to keep it up.

Last night I was in no mood for complicated stitching or knitting so I had some fun with the pages from an old book using kid’s glue (because I’m like a toddler with glue: I get it all over me 🙂 )

I am thinking about an idea with vintage paper and butterflies for my dad’s birthday I’ll be back soon with the results.

I leave you today with some pics of Binti on her new pink beanbag. We had this bag stored in the attic and it was destined for the charity shop but she jumped right on it and was so happy with it we decided to let her have fun with it this summer. She is going to have a very nice place to sleep when we’re in the garden!

Hope you have a very good day today!

finally finished

Good morning

Yesterday was like summer over here: sunshine an 20° in the afternoon and we had our first dinner outside!

Sunday was the same, we went for a visit with son 1 and dear daughter in law and despite being in the shade most of the time and wearing a hat I got a little sunburn.

I have worked hard on my peg bag project and finally the stitching is all finished

Today it’ll be made into a bag.

I have also been playing with book pages…

… and covered a tea box, it is still plain I will attach something to close the lid and some embellishments later, when I tried to take photographs this happened:

Boys…aren’t they lovely?

Have a good day.
